Cast Nets (also known as throw nets)

Cast nets are one of the oldest and most widespread types of nets used in fishing. Cast nets are nets that are thrown or cast into the water. When thrown, the net opens up in a large flat circular shape and sinks quickly to the bottom. The net is then pulled up out of the water and the catch is emptied. Cast nets are used to catch bait fish, shrimp, and pan sized fish. Cast nets are very popular with the commercial fisherman as well as the sport and weekend fisherman.
